Modern Render vs Traditional Render
The practice of rendering has been around for hundreds of years, however, in more recent times, a more modern approach to rendering has taken shape in the form of spray rendering.
Continue reading to find out more about spray rendering and how it compares to the more traditional form of rendering.
What is Modern Render?
Modern render refers to the practice of applying render with a purpose-built sprayer. Modern renders are available in different rendering types including silicone rendering, acrylic rendering and monocouche rendering.
The spray machine contains the render ingredients, mixes them up and then sprays out the render
What Are the Benefits of Modern (Spray) Rendering?
The benefits of modern spray rendering include:
- Faster application time: As the render is sprayed directly onto the surface using a presurrised machine, it is much quicker to apply than traditional render. Large patches of the wall can be covered in render in no time.
- Faster drying time: The layers of render are thinner than traditional render application, which means it dries faster between layers.
- Pre-coloured: Spray render can come in a pre-coloured option, saving you money and time as you don’t have to invest in paint or multiple render mixes.
- Cork-based render: When you use spray render, you have the option of using a cork-based render which uses natural ingredients, is durable and has improved thermal performance and sound insulation.
- Low maintenance: Spray render is easy to keep clean and maintained. It only needs an occasional pressure wash.
Disadvantages of Spray Rendering
The disadvantages of spray rendering includes:
- Remove gutters and wall features: For the best results, you will need to remove any gutters or wall features you have before applying the render.
- Not as much control: Although the spray machine used to apply the render has good control, applying the render by hand (the more traditional method) allows you to have much more control.
- Not as subtle: While you can add subtle touches or twists to the render with the traditional application method, the spray machine does not allow you to add those subtle finishing touches.
Why Choose a Tradtional Rendering Application?
A traditional rendering application allows you to have more control over the application of the render. You can apply thinner or thicker layers, add little finishing touches and more textured finishes. You get a more evenly distributed render application with a traditional render application.
It’s also easier to protect the surrounding environment if you apply the render by hand, as the spray machine may accidentally let out too much render mixture and go flying in other directions besides the wall surface that you are supposed to be rendering.
